Even before it is lit, the subtle fragrance of a scented candle will heighten your energy level,. So when you come home tired and frazzled, the aroma & flickering glow of a scented wax candle will relieve your tightness & lift your spirits.

Scented candles are wonderful gifts for any occasion and/or season, especially when made by your own hands.

1. Choose Your {Fragrance For Candle Making}

Fragrance oil is sold in most craft shops. You can also look for it on the internet. I would suggest that you opt for fragrance oils rather than going for inexpensive alcohol or water based fragrances. Because your wax mix is oil based, your fragrance must also be oil based. Why? Well, as oil and water do not blend, water based perfume tends not to mix with the melted wax.

2. Select Your Wax

The basics of {making scented candles} are more or less the same as for ordinary wax candles. Start by choosing your wax. Available in the market is a versatile range of wax starting with the naturals, beeswax, palm & soy, and progressing to paraffin or gel wax. It is important that you decide on the fragrance intensity for your candles before picking the kind of wax. For example, in case of gel candles, gel wax with less density holds less fragrance compared to gel wax with higher density.

3. The Art of Scented Candle Making

Let’s cover the method for making aromatic candles.

The first step is to melt your wax. Use a double boiler for this purpose. Which means put the wax in a small pot. Then put that container inside a slightly larger pot containing water. Now heat the H2O. Use a thermometer to avoid burning your wax. Maintain the temperature at a constant 170-180 degrees F.

Once the wax has melted, put a wick in the mold and remove your wax from the source of heat. Now add the fragrance oil that you have chosen. A mixture of 1 ounce fragrance oil to 1 pound wax will produce a fragrance that permeates your candle up to 6% of its density. Appreciate that larger portions of fragrance oil means the candle to burn out sooner.

Now pour the melted wax mixture into your mold. The only job remaining is to let it cool before removing your candle from it’s mold.

Congratulations! You’re finished!

4. Experiment as You Go

You will gain great expertise in all phases of candle making once you start experimenting. By using different fragrances and colors, you will perfect the art of candle making and thoroughly enjoy the process.

It’s a great feeling to award your loved ones with a {scented homemade candle} knowing that they will find the fragrant essences both relaxing and invigorating.
