Series 1 in toy form!

So here's the Doctor Who Series 1 gift set. While I see a number of reviews for it I'm going to break this set down figure-by-figure and rate them as either lame or awesome as I go through them. Some may be a surprise actually. Lets get started shall we?

The Ninth Doctor:
What an odd place to start. Yes this is our Doctor for Series 1 so it hurts to say that this figure isn't very good. First, he's not very possible, in fact he can't even take a neutral stance. He's literally stuck looking rather silly or like he's dancing. The set also doesn't include accessories so the hand that would look slightly better were it holding a screwdriver, doesn't even have that. The best I can come up with is maybe you could imagine he's commanding the Nanogenes from "The Doctor Dances", but that's about it. If nothing else its an okay likeness.
Verdict: Lame

Captain Jack Harkness:
Oddly the main companion of the Series, Rose Tyler, is not included in this set, but Camptain Jack is and the figure is great. Wearing his REF jump suit from "The Empty Child," I can only imagine this figure disappointing if the buyer wanted a more Torchwood Jack. He's very articulated and it looks like John Barrowman did in the episode.
Verdict: Awesome.

Tenth Doctor (Regeneration Version):
Odd isn't it that this is Eccleston's set and David Tennant is still included. Its made worse for ol' Chris in that David has a much nicer figure. While not a perfect likeness to Tennant, the figure has him in the old Doctor's clothes from right after his regeneration and the toy is very well made. This figure is actually more articulated than the other Character Options Tenth Doctor figures and it really is nice.
Verdict: Awesome.

Auton:
Well... I did not expect to like this figure at all, let alone as much as I do. How one makes an action figure of a living plastic mannequin a great toy is beyond me but they did it. The sculpt is very nice and the clothes on the little guy look surprisingly cool. The hand can also become the gun from the show. I just don't do it as not to break the hand.
Verdict: Awesome

Slitheen:
Okay, honestly, I take a lot of issue with the Slitheen for bringing fart jokes to Doctor Who, so again I must admit I'm surprised to say that this figure rocked. The articulation is great and the sculpt is very alien and life-like. This is actually a cool figure.
Verdict: Awesome.

Space Pig:
This defines lame. The darn thing was on screen for less than two minutes and this not very articulated thing that can hardly stand up doesn't help. Of all the things in series 1, this was an odd choice.
Verdict: Lame

The Empty Child:
No the most articulated but dern creepy. This little kid appeared in what was probably series 1's best episode, and he was creepy in that too. This figure gets uber creepy points!
Verdict: Awesome

Sycorax:
This alien wasn't in series 1... Seriously, it was in the first Christmas special that started out Series 2, so it seems an odd choice. The figure is really cool though. I wish he has a sword to fight David Tennant with though.
Verdict: Awesome

The Moxx:
LAME. This figure defines lame. He didn't do anything in the episode, he was there for a spit joke and that was it. I can't imagine why this of all figures was put in the set but it was a very very bad choice. There's no real articulation and there's really nothing you can do with him. I'm not bothering even putting a verdict down.

Dalek:
I saved this little guy for last. This is a very cool Dalek. Its about as articulated as a Dalek can be, but it also has a removable front plate so you can see the Dalek mutant within. I'll be the first to say I love Daleks, but this one is very very neat.
Verdict: Awesome

Final thoughts:
When I got this set, it was a great way to get a lot of figures for relatively cheap. It's certainly a great way to get quite a few aliens an the Tenth Doctor, Jack, and the Dalek are honestly worth the price of admission. Its only too bad there are some weird choices for this set and that the Ninth Doctor is so lame. I still would say this set is worth it overall.
The Doctor is great fun!

Reviewer: Ann Thompson,
These toys are great, my son loves them. They are a lot sturdier than I thought they would be. Thanks!
Great set, however, no accessories included!

The Good:
* Overall great value on 10 characters!
* You get the 9th Doctor and the mutant reveal Dalek!
* Fun packaging - makes for great presentation for those who don't open their toys.

The Bad:
* Many uninteresting/lame characters - Moxx of Balhoon? Space Pig? C'mon now...
* NO ACCESSORIES INCLUDED!!! Not a one sonic screwdriver and no gun for Captain Jack!

For a lil over $30 you get 10 characters (some great, some lame) with no accessories...
I only desired about half of the figures and it was still a good deal! If you want a variety
of figs and don't mind the missing accessories, this is for you!

I got this 10 figure set for my son who really loves the show. In fact we love to watch it togehter and now to play our own adventures. These figures along with a K-9 made from Legos, make that so easy to do.

The price of this with all the figures (and key ones too like boththe 9th and 10th Drs. and Capt. Jack) make this a must buy.
Whovian goodness!

This is the ULTIMATE collection for fans of New Doctor Who! 10 amazing figures incorporating key characters from Series 1. The Moxx of Balhoon, The Empty Child, an Auton, a Slitheen, Mutant reveal Dalek, the Sycorax leader, Augmented Pig from the episode "Aliens of London", Captain Jack, the Nineth Doctor and even the newly regenrated Tenth Doctor, still in his old self's leather jacket. The only bummer about this pack is that Cassandra- one of most memorable characters (villains) of the series is not included. But hey, it's still a brillaint pack, and works out much cheaper than it would if you were to buy each figure seperately. These guys are all very durable and would withstand a child's play very easily. However, do obey the recommended age on the packet, as there are some parts included.
