Displaying My New Sword

August 29th, 2010 · No Comments

Three years ago my friend started doing karate tournaments. Following his lead I started taking some martial arts training with him. Within a couple years I had gotten great at hand to hand combat. After a little while I determined that I could probably join my friend in his karate matches. After only a couple matches I become good enough to receive first place at the annual martial arts tournament in Baltimore Maryland.

This tournament did not give out trophies to its winners. Instead it did something that I think is much neater. I actually received a cool new medieval sword to display in my house. Obviously this sword is a medieval replica sword and not a historical piece but that doesn’t make it any less valuable to me. I’ve never been prouder of any trophy than I am of my medieval fighting sword.

I’m currently working on opening up my own dojo and now have something marvelous to display inside of it. My plan is to start building a display area to hold my various trophies and swords so that my new students will have something to look at and work for. This will be great motivation for them to practice harder and train later than their competitors. I’ll display them prominently near the main entrance so that everyone will see them as soon as they come in.

I’m currently trying to choose between a glass display case or a display shelf. These are two very common forms of displaying both trophies and swords and both have advantages and disadvantages.

Building a shelf display area will be very easy and will not require much money or time. These can be created through the use of screws and wood. I can even put them up and take them down all by myself.

A disadvantage to the shelf medieval sword display is that it can not easily be secured.

Buying a display case is great because I can secure the weapon and keep it out of reach but not out of site. I like this idea because it will keep my swords from becoming liabilities for my business.

The major drawback to this setup is that it will end up costing me a bit more money. I’ll have to think about my options a bit more and go from there.
