We know how daunting the prospect of creating candles on your own for the first time might be, but with the candle making tips we have provided it will be sheer fun.
No stress, little mess. And did I include having “fun”? For sure, I did!
Candle Making Recipes – Balloon Candle
Grab a balloon, some wax, paraffin or regular, and a wick. That’s it – you have what you need.
Use a double boiler to melt your wax to a temperature of 165 – 185 F degrees. Dip a water-filled balloon into the wax and pull it out quickly, allowing it to cool and set. Repeat continuously until a 1cm thick wax shell forms around the balloon. Burst the balloon and remove it from the candle’s center.
Add the warm wax, rotating continuously around the shell until the interior is almost completely covered. Insert the wick and pour the remaining wax, holding wick until supported by wax that has firmed by cooling down. Your wax masterpiece is finished!
There is even a simpler candle recipe…
Candle Making Recipes - Beeswax Candle
Grab your scissors and a sheet of beeswax and some cotton wick. Fold and cut the beeswax sheet in half. Select one of the sheets and place the wick on the long side with about 1 inch of wick extending past both ends of the beeswax sheet.
Using your fingertips, gently spool the beeswax sheet around the wick…sealing the wick securely to the wax. The warmth of your hands will create a seamless candle. Continue to tightly roll the beeswax making sure it is straight as you go.
When you reach the end, run your fingertips along the seam until the seam is melded into the candle body. Trim the wick at both ends. The one that is to be your base, cut flush against the wax. The other end will be the top of your candle. Here, snip the wick to 1/4 inch above the wax.
See? I did not steer you astray! Quick, simple and painless. And what about fun, fun, fun and very self satisfying! All that is left to do now is to show off the beautiful creations from your candle making recipes!
